Dumb Excuses for Dumping Pets Subject: Sound Familiar? Pass these VOID excuses far and wide!
When you care about animals, work with, or rescue them, you can't stomach people's excuses as to why they "suddenly can't care for" their own. You are essentially telling us that for whatever lame reason you come up with; you no longer wish to be responsible for your pet. Here are solutions..
Be responsible enough to take care of a baby AND a pet. You had your pet first. This is called being an adult! The thought of someone giving up their loving pet, especially after having this animal for years, is just heartbreaking. Animals don't need your excuses. They need family they can truly TRUST.
If you are allergic, you knew this before. You don't suddenly become deathly allergic to them one day. Most people are allergic to pollen or mold, don't always blame it on a pet. If you will simply wipe your cat or dog down each day with a damp cloth, problem solved. The true allergy is to the dander, not the fur itself. "Dusting off" your pet daily can prevent attacks and pointless excuses. If this is an issue for you in the first place, please do NOT adopt a dog or a cat, only to give them up. It's simply not fair.
Are you suddenly too busy for a dog or cat? Please. We waste time on many pointless things. Anyone can find 10 minutes at the end of a day, to sit with our dog or cat. Spending time with pets is therapeutic and lowers blood pressure! Your pet has been waiting for you all day.
The least you can do is spend time with them. For all the people you encounter or talk to all day that may not deserve your time, your pet is always deserving of it. Pets don't want your excuses; they only want you to love them.
For all the people who dump their dogs and cats off at a shelter, be ashamed of yourselves. When you are driving away, leaving your pet behind to grieve and likely end up euthanized, take a few moments to reflect on what an asshole you are.
The reality is when you dump off your animal, regardless of the reason, they don't know know WHY. They are waiting for you to return; to take them home. They often whine, cry and even yelp as if in pain because you abandoned them.
When you never show up or it sinks in that you aren't coming back, they become severely depressed, often refusing to eat. This is the sight irresponsible people spare themselves, while shelter workers have to care for and comfort your grieving pet.
Animals show us unconditional love. Show them love and respect in return. Not excuses.
Hi, my name is Gino and I think it is a glorious name. I am a bichon frise. I was found by a really nice man who brought me to Almost Home Animal Haven. I was wandering around looking for my family. The man said my family moved and left me but I didn't believe it. I found out he was right.
You see, I am about six years old and, although that isn't really old, I have an illness called Cushing's Disease. Any other place would have put me to sleep but not Almost Home. Instead, they have done everything you can imagine to make me adoptable. I was matted so badly when I came to Almost Home. My ears were a mess and so were my eyes. Almost Home had me groomed so I would look pretty and feel good. And I was feeling better after they did that. But they noticed that I was always hungry, thirsty and my hair was thin in areas.
They took me to the vet and that's when the vet said he thought I had Cushing's. I got really scared because the volunteer lady started to cry. The vet said he would do lots of tests with lots of bloodwork. He said not to worry because if I had the "right" kind of Cushing' s, I could live a wonderful life with the right medication. The nice lady volunteer hugged me and kissed me and told me she would do everything she could do to make me feel good and be adoptable. She gave me more love then anyone in my whole life did. I wasn't scared anymore because she gave me confidence. And, guess what? It turned out I had the "right" kind of Cushing's! Yippee! I will be able to get well and live a happy life in a forever home!
I am on my medication now and I've been neutered, too. I'm ready now for my loving, forever, responsible home. Everyone at Almost Home says there is someone out there for me. Someone who will love me, take care of me and let me love them back. My name is Gino and I love it when I hear my name. My name is Gino and it is a glorious name. My name is Gino and I love the sound of it because it is the name Almost Home has given me.
Please fill out an online application for our darling Gino. Please let him know that family really does mean forever. Go to http://www.almosthomeanimals.org/ For information, phone 248-200-2695 Email almosthome1965@gmail.com

I am a bit shy when I first meet you, but not to worry -- in no time at all we will be best friends. I really am a sweetheart and I do enjoy being petted and held. I also am very curious and will want to spend time investigating my surroundings. I have never met another cat or a dog before so if you do have other pets at home, please introduce us slowly.

Meet Cooper! He's got quite a sad story...but hopefully it will have a happy ending when he finds a new home. Despite being blind, Cooper is a happy little Havanese...at least we're pretty sure that's what he is. He was pulled from a local animal shelter so we aren't able to ask his previous family about him. He was a shaggy mess when we pulled him but now that he's been to the groomer he's quite the handsome little man!. Our vet thinks he is about 9 years old, which isn't old for such a little dog. He weighs less than 9 pounds. He's been heartworm tested, and given all his vaccines. Cooper's teeth are quite bad, and he has a heart murmer. There is a chance the heart murmer is caused from his bad teeth and bacteria getting into his blood stream. He will require blood work and chest x-rays to see if he is well enough to handle anesthesia to have a dental cleaning done. We are hoping that enough people will read this and offer donations to help us pay for these procedures. Click the Donate button to help!
Tweet HEY, HEY, HOW ABOUT MY HAIRDO?????? Personally, I think it gives me a totally unique, all-me look!!!! So who am I???? My name is FRANKIE and I'm about 2 years young right now, which means I'm all grown up! But I still have a lot of puppy energy, so......my brand new, forever family should be ready for me to take them for walks around my new neighborhood, be able to learn how to play with doggy toys like balls and maybe frisbees and just plain old bouncing around the yard kind of companion doggy fun stuff! Also, you should know that I am a pretty affectionate guy, which I know is really important and will make it that much easier for all of us to become best-ever buddies. So why am I looking for my perfect new, forever home???? Well, somehow I became lost and no one ever ever came looking for me! I'm all safe and warm and well-fed here at the shelter, but it's just not the same as having my own family. I'm all up to date with my shots, but I still need to be neutered, which is included in my adoption fees. Also, look at my eye - I have what's called "cherry eye" and what that means is that my third eyelid became infected (happens to us cocker types) and ended up looking like this. Be sure and talk with my adoption counselor and my veterinarian about this - it has to be fixed when I have my surgery and will be included in my adoption fees. So, when am I going to meet you???? FRANKIE should have lots of toys to play with and chew on in his new, forever home, as well as his own crate to help him polish up his house manners. Kids would be great but they should be old enough to know how to be responsible both in play and with general care of FRANKIE. All interactions with kids should be supervised. Also, please consider having FRANKIE microchipped at the time of his adoption.
Tweet Hi everyone. My name is Lola and I am an 8-Year-Old Siberian Huskey. The best part of all is that since I have already been spayed, I can go home with you TODAY!
I am a very friendly and happy girl. I am very nice to play with and I like to go for walks. I am very interested in new sights and want to investigate my surroundings. I have never lived with other dogs before. I really would rather not live with cats. To me they are fuzzy toys that need to be chased and caught. That is bad. I will get along with children of all ages (with supervision).

It really is too bad that someone on Craigslist keeps flagging the posts, that I have put up there. All I was trying to do was highlight pets that were available for adoption at various shelters. Since I don't have much traffic on this site without it, it really is not worth it to contiune to posts animals available for adoption. For the few people who do come to this site because of that, please continue to look on Petfinder.
More About Davey Davey is brand new . He is a tiny boy so we think he should not go into a home with small children or dogs . Davey is three and half years old and weighs only 6 and a half pounds. Tweet More About Remy Remy is a Real Sweetheart! Hi everyone. My name is Remy and I am a 4-Year-Old Labrador Retriever/Great Dane mix. I weigh 58.80 pounds, but I really need to gain weight. I am way too skinny for my size. The best part of all is that since I have already been neutered, I can go home with you TODAY!
I am a very friendly and social boy. I just LOVE to meet new people and go new places. I am very strong and need help on learning how to walk on a leash. Ireally need to get some training and hope you and I can take classes together. This would be really fun and beneficial. I will learn my manners and how to be a really great doggie. The best part is that you and I will form a bond that will last a lifetime. I have never lived with other dogs or with cats before. If you have other doggies at home, we really need to meet first, just to make sure that we will get along. I also will do fine with children of all ages (with supervision). I also need to meet all children in the home prior to adoption also.
More About DINO HI, HO....it's...DINO!!!! Meet DINO, one handsome 6 year young - ALREADY NEUTERED - Australian Cattle Dog mix who has found himself needing a brand new, forever home! What a revolting development that has been for this sweet and friendly guy! But it happens and he just knows his perfect family will find him. He is a bit shy at first, and can get startled a bit at sudden, new situations, but once he feels comfy, he'll be looking for affection and tum-tum rubs..... And when he's had enough, he'll let you know. And, wow, does DINO have a tum-tum to rub!!! This guy is, frankly, too heavy! Dogs can develop serious health problems if they are too heavy, just as us humans can. DINO should have a good program of diet and exercise to get him back in shape, so be sure and consult with your vet about the best method to accomplish this goal. Right now heis on meds for an ear infection, which is responding nicely to medication. DINO would do best in a quiet home and if there are kids, they should be older, like 10 and above. Loads of TLC and toys and loving is what this boy is seeking, as well as regular exercise and a high-quality diet. He should have his own crate in his new, forever home, to help with his transition to new surroundings as well as to give him his own spot when he wants to take a time-out from tum-tum rubs. Because DINO is already NEUTERED he can go home the same day he is adopted, so round up the family and come get to know this sweet boy......then all go home together and start enjoying each other!! Don't forget to have hime microchipped!
More About Dora&Earl-234377/2 Hi we are Dora and Earl. We are brother and sister. Earl. We are pictured together. We need a home that will keep us together as we've been together all our lives, and it would not be good for us to be adopted out any other way than together. right now we are both a little scared and shy, but we have a lot of love to give. Earl likes to give pretty ladies kisses, and I just like to snuggle. We would be best in a home without children, and probably a quite home would also be best. Can you help us find the perfect place for us to call home? Our ID #s 234377 & 234378
Zane is a Sweetheart! Hi everyone. My name is Zane and I am a 1-Year-Old Siberian Husky mix. I weigh 53 pounds and I am pretty much full grown. As you can see from my picture, I am quite striking with my one brown eye and one blue eye! How cool is that!
I am a little bit shy when I first meet you, but in no time at all we will be best friends. I am really very loving and very gentle. I will come right up to you and sit for a hug. In return, I will give you the nicest doggie kisses around. You know, if you and I could take some classes together I can build my self-confidence, learn my manners and the best part is that you and I will form a bond that will last a lifetime. I have lived with other dogs before and we got along fine. I have never met a cat before. It might be best if I live in a home without cats because my breed is prey-driven and to me a cat may be a fuzzy toy that needs to be chased. This would be bad. I will do best in a home with children 5 years and older Smaller children may startle me with their quick movements and loud noises.
How to adopt! The adoption fee includes sterilization surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, and the Michigan Humane Society 10-day health plan. For more information, please visit or call the Michigan Humane Society Rochester Hills Center for Animal Care at 248-852-7420 and provide the Pet ID number.

My mom is a Border Collie/ Lab and my dad is a Shepherd/Lab. So some of us look like mom and some of us look like dad. We are 8 weeks old. We are ready to find a new family to love us. Tweet Cookie was born around 2000 and is mostly white with tan markings. She was adopted from us and stayed in her home for almost one year before being returned. Cookie was returned because she is not good with other dogs. She requires a fenced yard when outdoors and may sometimes dart through open doors if given the chance. Cookie has never lived with children and cannot be placed with other animals. She is very active despite being considered a senior-age dog. Cookie should be crated when left alone or she may have accidents or be destructive. She loves to snuggle and is a needy dog that demands lots of attention! She is good in the car but cannot have stuffed type toys.
Tweet This is a happy 6 month old puppy who is keeping his paws crossed for someone nice to adopt him so he can play with them. He will be 30-35 pounds. He is still a pup and looks forward to learning about walking on a leash, going "outside", toys....and yes, a family that will always keep him safe and loved. Why not come to the shelter and meet him in person...he will impress you.

Monica Labrador Retriever [Mix] Large Baby Female Dog Pet ID: 6958607
Last Day Dog Rescue, Southfield, MI
More About Monica Monica is the sweetest little girl you will find who had such a rough start. Monica and her litter mates were dropped off at a shelter at 4 weeks of age, much too young to be away from their mom. The pups were hand fed by a volunteer until they came to our rescue. Poor Monica then became very ill and had to spend Christmas and many days to follow at the vets office. We are glad to say she is completely healed now and so sweet you would never know she had such a tough beginning. As Monica was dropped at the shelter with no mom or dad on the scene we really do not know what she is mixed with. The vet says Lab and it is true she looks like a lab but this little girl is petite and will probably not be more than 30 lbs max, that is being generous! Monica is such a cuddle bug, loves to lay with her people but also enjoys interacting with other dogs. She is a typical puppy, a bit more laid back than some and still working on potty training but coming along nicely. Monica loves her toys and her fleece bed, she does get cold outside, being such a small thing, so a doggie sweater is recommended. Please give Monica the chance for a forever home where she will be loved and treated with kindness. There is also a $50.00 neuter deposit which will be returned when proof of it is shown by vet records. Our organization offers 24PetWatch microchips, which include free registration into the 24PetWatch pet recovery service. For more information visit www.24petwatch.com or call 1-866-597-2424. This pet also is eligible for 30 days of pre-paid ShelterCare pet health insurance. For more information please visit www.sheltercare.com or call 1-866-375-PETS.
Beau is a wonderful Redbone Coonhound puppy. He is a fun, well behaved boy who needs a famliy with a yard to play in. He was given as a gift to a home with no yard and a very small condo. He's obedience trained, house trained and is clean in his crate.
Hi! this is Carmello. I am doing really well now. I am learning to trust and I think I am ready to go to my forever home now. I got a haircut and I feel so much better. I look so different but I don't care. Everyone says I look even more adorable. Can that really be? I just want to play, play and play. I love to sit in my foster mommy lap when she sits on the floor. I also love my tummy rubbed. I growl a little at people I don't know if they try to pet me. I can get to know new people though. You just have to understand me. After all I was beaten and abused and neglected too. Oy, have I come a long way. I absolutely cannot go to a home with children. Please respect that. I am afraid of them and may bite them. I will be a good doggie for an adult home. If you have grandkids please keep me in another room until they are gone. Please open your heart and home to me. I will be forever grateful. Love Cammy XXXOOO New photo coming soon.

Hello and thank you for finding me on the web. My name is Shawna and I am a year and a half years old . My fur is a mix of brown and white – I have white boots and chin, and the rest is warm brown. I weigh 9 pounds and I am simply a cuddly ball of love. I am waiting here for my forever home. Could it be yous? What is also very important is that I have already been spayed, so once you decide you want to take me home with you, I can go the same day!
More about me
I am a very sweet, little kitty cat. I love to be pet, picked up and held for a little while. I am curious and like to check things around me - see me on the photos? yet for the most part I am a laid back girl who likes to lounge and observe. I am also very cuddly – I will rub on you to get your attention and relax right next to you. I love attention – will you scratch me behind my ears? Please give me some extra time to get used to my new surroundings. Because of my friendliness and laid back attitude I should be a great company for small children. Please remember to supervise our interaction, as I may be a bit shy and not that fond of being constantly picked up. If you have pets at home, please take some time and introduce us slowly.

PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS DOG IS NOT A SILVER LAKE DOG. WE ARE POSTING AS A COURTESY TO THE RESCUER WHO HAS HIM. SEE BELOW FOR CONTACT INFORMATION:
This is Donner. He is the father of Cupid, Dasher and Blitzen, also on this site. The mother was a Boston Terrier. Donner is about 2 years of age and weighs about 10 lbs. He had a haircut - that is why he is wearing the little coat as it was chilly at the adoption show on the 20th when his pictures were taken. Donner is neutered and up to date on shots.
Donner is very quiet and sweet. He is very good to handle. He loves attention and likes the company of other dogs. He was kept out in a barn his whole life and has not been socialized a whole lot but he is not nippy or snappy in any way. He would be a good lap dog for someone. He has been exposed to kids but no toddlers please. Donner is learning to play - he never saw a toy before and did not know what to do with one when he first arrived but is now getting the idea by watching the other dogs!! He is working on his housebreaking.

AWESOME.....ARTHUR!!!!! Meet too-sweet ARTHUR, a 3-year-young handsome hunk of grey and black Poodle love who is just big enough (11.5 pounds) to fit in your arms and alongside you on the couch when it's chill time.
ARTHUR is in search of his new, forever home and family because he somehow became separated from his home and no one came looking for him as he wandered the cold, lonely streets. He is a sweet boy, but a bit on the shy side, so when his lucky new family adopts him and takes him home, they should be ready to give him some extra TLC (EZ to do) while he settles in and gets to know his way around his new home.
ARTHUR would do best in a home where, if there are kids, they be at least 10, just so they are old enough and responsible enough to give him the extra TLC he needs because of his shyness. He should have lots of toys to play with, and chew on, if he feels like it, and would love to take walks with hisnew family members.
ARTHUR should also have his own crate in his new, forever home, to help him reinforce his GREAT GUY house manners and to give him his own spot while he naps and dreams about how lucky he now is. He will need grooming to keep his coat in good condition. He is current withhis shots, but he still needs tobeneutered, which is included in his adoption fees.
Be sure and talk with ARTHUR'S adoption counselor about enrolling him in a training/obedience class - this will definitely help him overcome his shyness, help his new family bond with him and give him the chance to show off just how smart a guy he is!!!
How to adopt ARTHUR! The adoption fee includes sterilization surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, and the Michigan Humane Society 10-day health plan. For more information, please visit or call the Michigan Humane Society Detroit Center for Animal Care at 313-872-3400.
Tweet Hi, my name is Trixster and some day I hope to live up to that name by learning a lot of tricks! I definitely have the potential, but right now I am a little too scared to learn to show off! You see, I am three years old and was rescued from a puppy mill where I spent my life in a cage with little human interaction. I am very friendly though and love to give kisses!! It just takes me awhile to warm up and learn to trust people. So if you want a sweet little dog that has LOTS of love to give please be sure to be patient with me and I will give you a lifetime of kisses and funny antics!
More about me...I am currently living in a foster home and learning what it is like to have a home...and so far it is LOTS of fun! I am housetrained already...see, I told you I have great potential! I also live with another dog (you can see her in the one pic of me) and two kitties. I am very well behaved and am getting used to living with everyone, but please, if you have any pets currently please bring them so that we can meet prior to adoption to make sure we get along!
I really love cuddling and love to just sit on your lap and hang out with you. And, don't forget, I love to give kisses! So if you are looking for a cuddle partner to sit in front of the fire with and watch a good movie I'm your gal!! I am not the typical Jack Russell due to my background but as I feel more comfortable with my surroundings I will probably feel more like myself and the true Jack Russell characteristics may come out so please be sure to read up about my breed to make sure we would be the right fit.
So just to recap...I am a very sweet girl, who loves to cuddle and give kisses, but I need someone who will be really patient with me as I learn what it is like to have a normal doggie life. So if this sounds like the right fit please call or contact the Detroit Center for Animal Care so we can meet!
How to adopt! The adoption fee includes sterilization surgery, age-appropriate vaccinations, and the Michigan Humane Society 10-day health plan. For more information, please visit or call the Michigan Humane Society Detroit Center for Animal Care at 313-872-3400.
Tweet Hi my name is Patty. I know simple commands but am eager to learn more. I love people of all ages and I get along with other dogs, but need supervision around cats. I am easy to handle and very gentle. Help me find a loving home. This pet is up to date with routine shots. This pet is already house trained. This pet has been altered.
