Ellen and her dog

What are your views on Ellen DeGeneres (click on Ellen's name for story) and her giving a dog to her her hairdresser?

I recently adopted a puppy from a wonderful women who runs an animal rescue. I did find though that many of these rescues are getting really strict in who they will adopt too. I am sure they have seen a lot and have their reasons, but the goal is to find these animals a nice home and it concerns me that they are missing out on some great homes just because there rules scare people away.

As for the Ellen situation, perhaps Ellen went about it in the wrong way by not asking the rescue ahead of time, but.....this rescue agency should AT LEAST go to these people's home to see if the dog can stay there and has found a good home. There are so many animals out there in the cages at the pound, here is a family who really really wants this dog!

I personally don't think Ellen did anything wrong. She was just trying to find the dog a nice home and knew someone who she thought would take care of the dog and love it. Sometimes when you have other pets they just don't get along, it happens!
Look at this link of what the women who owns the rescue says.

These adopters are out of control. They are overly invasive and don't put the dogs first. I had a bad experience that I'll never forget from an insulting, arrogant, idiot who thought she knew everything. My friends and family couldn't believe things that she said. I now have two wonderful dogs that were rescued and they are the love of our lives. The fees they charge force frustrated people to buy dogs from puppy mills and advertisements. The hoops you have to jump through are rediculous. A lot of these agencys are causing more problems than they are solving. I hope they start using common sence!

Although I believe that Ellen was trying to do good for the dog, I DO believe that she did something wrong by not living up to the adoption contract. The rescue had no idea who the new home was, what they were about, they had not filled out any contract and were not legally bound to abide by any rules for the dog, etc. Rescues have a reason to do what they do and not make exceptions or take the valuable time to re-evaulate every situation for the hundreds of dogs in their rescues every time someone breaks the rules. I am also confused at why the family does not just apply to the rescue to adopt Iggy directly. And I hope that people realize that this kind of thing in rescues happens ALL OF THE TIME! When someone violates an adoption contract, the rescue must retrieve the dog for the animal's best interest. They do not have the time to individually examine every case at the time. They must abide by a set policy which MOST OF THE TIME keeps a dog safe and controlled by the rescue situation.

Ellen breached her contract. Doesn't matter if she did it in a nice way or not. She breached a legal contract that she signed. Thats against the law. Just because she is famous, does not give her the right to abuse her powers.
